Dr. Michelle Barrow

Michelle Barrow is Health Generation and the driving force behind the ambition, vision and commitments of the company. Michelle is a Registered Nutritional Therapist (FBANT) who uses the functional medicine approach to help her clients achieve optimum health.

It was when she became ill, in her mid twenties, that her interest in nutrition and complementary medicine developed. Through helping herself with nutrition Michelle realised the profound effect diet has on health. This has driven her desire to help other people and to share her understanding of the difference Nutritional Therapy can make.

In 2005 Michelle achieved a first class degree in Nutritional Therapy from the Centre of Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM). In 2007 she achieved a Masters (MSc) degree in Evidence-Based Practice in Nutrition from Middlesex University and her post-graduate modules have focused her skills on weight loss, fatigue and M.E. and child health. Michelle has a Diploma to Teach in the Life-long Learning Sector (DTLLS), is a Qualified Teacher in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QTLS), and is a member of the Society for Education and Training (SET). She also has a neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) practitioner qualification in life-coaching. In 2019 Michelle completed a Doctorate in Professional Studies (DProf) at Middlesex University titled “Leading Transformation in Personalised Nutrition Practice”.

Michelle’s doctoral research developed clinical tools for personalised nutrition and obesity management. These tools aim to collect health data, using a pathophysiological reasoning approach, and statistically analyse the effect of changing variables (diet, supplements, sleep, stress etc.) on health. These tools could provide an evidence base for personalised nutrition which can use Bayesian analysis to make probabilistic predictions on the outcomes of personalised nutrition interventions.

As well as running Health Generation Michelle works as Head of Education at the Centre of Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM). They are a private centre that teaches an undergraduate degree in Nutrition Science and an MSc/Diploma and Certificate in Personalised Nutrition validated by Middlesex University. Michelle led the Personalised Nutrition and Longevity masters degree module and the undergraduate Personalised Nutrition Interventions module.

Michelle is a Fellow member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition Nutritional Therapy (FBANT), which is the professional body for Nutritional Therapy, in 2015 she was awarded BANT Fellow membership for outstanding contribution to the profession. She is registered with the Complementary and Natural healthcare Council (CNHC), an associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), a member of the Royal Society for Biology and a member of the Nutrition Society.

Her aim is to educate and motivate you to make healthy improvements to your diet and lifestyle.
